The St George Illawarra Dragons are deeply saddened at the passing of Premiership-winning lock-forward George Jardine, on Friday morning.
Jardine was the last surviving member of the 1949 Premiership winning team whom defeated the South Sydney Rabbitohs 19-12 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Growing up in Wollongong, Jardine played five seasons with the St George Dragons between 1947-1950 and 1952 and scored nine tries in 60 appearances for the Club.
The highly-regarded forward returned to the Illawarra in 1953 where he joined the Northern Suburbs Wollongong club before forging a long association with the Helensburgh Tigers.
The Dragons will wear black armbands as a sign of respect during their fixture against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Sunday.
