The St George Illawarra Dragons have been made aware by the NRL Integrity Unit of a positive test and provisional suspension of NYC player Dylan Lauri in line with the NRL’s Anti-doping policy.
Lauri, 19, has been stood down by the NRL from all rugby league activities for a positive A-sample test to a banned anabolic steroid, nandrolone.
Lauri has played seven NYC games this year and has also played with Western Suburbs in the local Illawarra League.
"This advice from the NRL came as a complete surprise to us and we would be extremely disappointed if a player has acted outside the systems, guidance and education provided by the Club and NRL,” said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.
"Dylan has participated in Anti-Doping Education as well as further internal information sessions delivered by our High Performance Staff.
“We fully support the NRL’s position and decision."
In relation to supplements and medications provided by the Club to players, the Dragons fully comply with NRL Rules and Policies and have conducted internal testing and education sessions in addition to the NRL requirements, at all levels of Club activities.
The B-Sample is yet to be tested and Lauri has the opportunity to work through a documented process.
Whilst this provisional suspension does not permit Lauri to train or play, the NRL and Dragons have put steps in place in regards to the player’s welfare.
