The St George Illawarra Dragons took time out from their busy training schedule to meet and mix with local rugby league team, the Tasman Titans who were training nearby the team’s accommodation in Nelson.
Josh Dugan, Kurt Mann, Adam Quinlan, Tim Lafai, Peter Mata’utai, Josh McCrone and Taane Milne put the locals through some drills before joining in a game of touch football, much to the delight of the local players and fans.
“Nelson is rugby union heartland so it is good to see that they have a rugby league team here,” said Dragons utility Peter Mata’utai. “It was a good opportunity to meet a few of the locals and join in their training session, I think our boys enjoyed it as much as the Tasman Titans players”.
“Josh McCrone was setting up the drills and calling the shots, he was even giving our boys some feedback.
“It was good fun and an experience that the locals here in Nelson appreciated as they don’t have much rugby league in this area so it was nice to be able to spend a bit of time with them.
“Hopefully they will come out and support us on Saturday although I suspect that being Kiwi’s they are probably Warriors fans,” added Mata’utai.
