The St George Illawarra Dragons were 34-22 winners over the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Thursday.
The Young Dragons scored seven tries enroute to their fourth straight competition victory which included a double to winger Paora Kemp.
Head Coach Mat Head had opted to standby the line-up announced earlier in the week but was forced to see his team concede the opening try of the game in the tenth minute.
Rabbitohs second-rower Cameron Murray was the man of the moment having received a short ball to barge his way over the stripe.
Rabbitohs five-eighth Chad O'Donnell converted soon after to make it 6-0.
The visitors however hit back shortly thereafter when second-rower Luciano Leilua threw a cut out pass to Kemp who scored in the 17th minute.
In what could be described as a moment of deja vu, the Dragons scored a near identical try when again Leilua threw another cut out pass to Kemp to score once again two minutes later.
However, the home side struck back and inflicted a further two tries through wingers Tom Perrin and Mawene Robinson to reclaim the lead.
Murray converted one of his two attempts to make it 16-8 at the break.
The hosts extended their lead off the back of back-to-back penalties which culminated with a try to utility Tim Davis in the 46th minute.
O'Donnell notched a further goal and made it 22-8.
However, momentum soon changed and the visitors began their second-half rally with tries to both halfback Jack Payne and prop TJ Uele prior to the hour mark.
Dragons five-eighth Jai Field converted both his goal attempts and made it 22-20.
This was later followed-up by winger Reuben Garrick's burrowing try in the corner to reclaim the lead for hit team in the 62nd minute.
Field added the extras to make it 26-22.
From here on in, the points kept coming for the visitors, with centre Donte Efaraimo later getting in on the action mere minutes later.
Field then grabed a late four-pointer of his own to make the scoreboard read 34-22.
