The St George Illawarra Dragons were defeated 20-10 by the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium, Robina on Friday night.

The game was barely two minutes old when the Dragons opened the scoring, opting to take a shot at penalty goal through Gareth Widdop for an early 2-0 lead.

The Titans responded soon after, when Anthony Don came down with an Ash Taylor kick across field for a 4-2 lead after 10 minutes.

The lead was short lived though, with Widdop opting to level the scores up through a penalty goal after 25 minutes.

A shift out to the right edge eight minutes later saw Don bag his second, extending the Titans lead to 8-4.

The home side rounded out the first half with a penalty goal of their own, putting the score at 10-4 heading into the break.

With Tyson Frizell and Blake Lawrie off injured, the Titans took advantage of an overlap on the right edge, setting up Don for his third try.

Tyrone Roberts converted the try from out wide for a 16-4 lead after 55 minutes.

Josh McCrone and Widdop combined to put Kurt Mann over in the corner three minutes later, before the Dragons’ captain converted from the sideline to put it at 16-10.

A penalty goal each to Roberts and Taylor in the final 10 minutes saw the Titans run out 10 point winners.
