St George Illawarra are proud to announce Matthew Vickers as the Red V member of the match for Round 8!
As a thank you for his dedication, Matthew was showcased during our Round 8 home game at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Sunday, May 1 and presented with a signed 2022 Dragons jersey.
Why was he selected as the Red V member of the match?
Matthew has been a Red V member for 19 consecutive seasons and his support is shown at all our home venues as he attends matches at Kogarah in his Gold seat with his family who are also all members.
However, for Wollongong you’ll find him on the hill proudly displaying his specially designed Dragons Australian flag banner with the other faithful supporters.
Over the years, Matthew has also taken part in many different membership initiatives and shown real passion in being involved with the club. Whether it’s attending a member event, participating in a game day experience, travelling interstate to show his support, or even the previously held Members Advisory Forum, Matthew is always around the Dragons.
Who is Matthew’s favourite Dragons player (past or present) and why?
I’ve had many favourite players dating back to Steve Linnane when I was six years old. Ben Hunt is my favourite within the current team. I admire both Ben’s leadership of the team through some trying times and his physical toughness in defence. I also have great respect for the way Ben will take the time, regardless of the result, to acknowledge the crowd post-match.
