St George Illawarra are proud to announce Leanne Hicks as the Red V member of the match for Round 16!
As a thank you for her dedication, Leanne was showcased during our Round 16 home game at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Sunday, July 3 and presented with a signed 2022 Dragons jersey.
Why was she selected as the Red V member of the match?
Leanne was selected for our next Red V member of the match for her long-term and committed support of the Dragons and her constant generosity and enthusiasm with being involved with the club.
An inaugural member for 21 years, Leanne influences the next generation of Dragons fans through her profession as a teacher by passing on her passion to her students. She always encourages her students to get to games and acknowledges that the Dragons aren’t just a footy team but a part of the community and a big part of her life. Leanne has been going to games on the hill since 1995 but has since upgraded to a seat after her students kept spotting her at games from hearing how loud her cheers were!
Throughout her years of support, Leanne has developed close relationships with other Dragons fans who have acted as a close-knit family to Leanne while also enjoying her very vocal energy on game day!
Leanne has stated that the Dragons saved her life, investing her time and energy into supporting a team and showing her passion. She also takes full advantage of her benefits of being a Red V member by being participating in many club initiatives, including attending member events, being a part of the previous Members Advisory Forum, and showing her charity by pledging her membership payments to the club when games were cancelled during COVID to continue supporting the club.
Who is Leanne’s favourite Dragons player (past or present) and why?
My all-time favourite Dragon will always be Nathan Blacklock. Aside from his amazing speed and footy skills, he has always been a great ambassador for the game. I’m amazed by the work that he does for the community and has also helped me out at our school. He has always represented the club well and I’ll always think highly of ‘Tingha
