St George Illawarra Dragons are proud to announce Alex Suttie as the Red V Member of the match for Round 4!
Ask any family man to reveal their favourite memory and they would likely say - the birth of his children and their weddings.
However, according to Alex’s daughter, Lauren, she believes "those memories would be kicked off top spot and this would replace it".
Alex, a 13-year Red V member, fell in love with the game of rugby league and the Red V at the age of 5. You would have thought Alex was destined to be a Penrith fan as he recalls attending games at Penrith Park alongside his mother and father who were Penrith fans.
I even played for the Penrith Panthers representative side, but my team was always the Dragons. I would visit St George Leagues club on game days just to see some of my favourite players and even got an autograph from Billy Smith that I still have until this day.
Alex Suttie
Whilst Alex remembers the ‘Never Before, Never Again’ era, he also remembers the hardships of the 1975 Grand Final loss to the Roosters vs Dragons. Seeing it for the first time in colour had him in awe and is a memory he will never forget.
The back-to-back 1992 & 1993 Grand Finals losses against the Broncos – a heartbreaking 2 years for any Red V fan, however, he remained true to his team as he knew how courageous the Red V are.
That is why the 2010 Grand Final was a pinnacle moment in Alex’s life, not just because the Red V triumphed over the Roosters 32-8, but because Alex was able to take his daughters, Lauren and Emma, to their first Grand Final at Accor Stadium. A game, a victory, a memory they will share together.
Attending member events is important for Alex and his family, despite their busy work schedule they are driven to see their Red V when they can. Alex was fortunate enough to attend the 10-plus year Red V Member event in 2022 where he met one of his favourite players in Ben Hunt.
Family and the Red V are engrained in Alex’s life, they all continue to commit to Kogarah Games and even converted his son-in-law to be a passionate Red V Member – who wouldn’t want to be in that number!?
We thank you Alex for your continued dedication and passion for the Dragons, we hope the Member of the Match makes the top spot!
We have awarded him the Red V Member of the Match during our Round 4 home game at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday 26th March vs Cronulla Sharks.
