The Dragons proudly joined Australia in celebrating National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week across the first week of July with players and staff participating in community events throughout the St George, Illawarra, and South Coast regions.
The aim of NAIDOC Week is to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on an annual basis with this year’s theme being “For Our Elders”.
This year, Dragons players and staff as well as their families were once again encouraged to take part in NAIDOC Week celebrations across local communities.
NAIDOC Week is a tremendous opportunity for the players and staff to continue building on the club’s ongoing effort in promoting cultural awareness amongst the community.
Indigenous All Stars representatives Tyrell Sloan – a Koonawarra local and proud Wiradjuri man – and Bobbi Law – a proud Worimi woman – were in attendance at the NAIDOC Family Fun Day at Koonawarra Community Centre along with Dragons CEO Ryan Webb and his family as well as NRLW recruit Tyla Nathan-Wong.
Tautau Moga and his family joined Tara McGrath-West at the 3Bridges NAIDOC Week Youth and Family Day at Penshurst.
The club also supported and were in attendance at other NAIDOC Week celebrations including the Shellharbour City Council NAIDOC Community Day, Greene St Warrawong NAIDOC Family Fun Day, Shoalhaven NAIDOC Family Fun Day at Nowra Showground and WNDAC NAIDOC After Party Celebrating our Elders at Bellambi Surf Life Saving Club.
