The Dragons recently visited both St George and Wollongong Hospital to donate a combined $10,000 towards purchasing vital, new equipment.
Wollongong Hospital’s Emergency Department welcomed Tara McGrath-West, Dan Russell, Sione Finau and Connor Muhleisen as they presented the proceeds from the club’s annual Charity Shield clash.
The $5,000 donation will go toward the purchase of a specialised video laryngoscope that will enhance the ease and speed of intubation for patients in the ED.
The team not only saw a demonstration of how the new addition works but spent time visiting other parts of the hospital.
There was plenty of footy talk, smiles, and photos with patients and staff in Stroke/Neuro Ward, Illawarra Cancer Care Centre, Rehabilitation Ward and Orthopaedics Ward.
At St George Hospital, Keele Browne, Corey Ackers, Finau Latu and Loko Tonga were on hand to present a further $5,000 donation to the Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with donations going towards the purchase of an MRI Transport Ventilator - a machine that will assist with patient monitoring during internal hospital transfers - residing inside the ICU.
The players all were shown one of the machines that had previously been purchased with the addition of another machine allowing greater service.
As a part of the visit, the players on hand met staff, patients, and their loved ones within the ICU.
The quartet also had the opportunity to spend some valuable time with another group of patients and caring staff in the hospital’s rehabilitation ward gymnasium, chatting all things life and rugby league.
