Dragons Lower Grades Wrap: Round 19

Check out our results from the Jersey Flegg Cup and Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership competitions from over the weekend.

Our Knock-On Effect NSW Cup unit enjoyed a bye this weekend while our Jersey Flegg squad travelled overseas, and our Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership sides opened their accounts.

JERSEY FLEGG CUP

The Dragons overcame the Silktails 38-8 at Lautoka's Churchill Park in a welcome boost for their finals chances.

Ben Rumble was again the star of the show with the fullback scoring back-to-back-to-back first half tries before securing his fourth in the second stanza.

It proved his second four-try haul in as many meetings with the Silktails after snagging one in the sides' Round 3 win at Kogarah.

HARVEY NORMAN NSW WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP

The Dragons notched their opening win of the season downing the Eels 20-14 at Eric Tweedale Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors shook off an early Eels try to snag a lead courtesy of tries to winger Mia Barber and centre Brittany Constable.

The Eels responded 25 minutes in through Losalio Sita Payne before a Grace Clarke try put the Red V ahead heading into the break.

Fullback Katrina Phippen crossed early in the second stanza to give the Dragons a double-digit lead which proved enough despite a late Eels charge.

The Steelers managed their first victory of their 2024 campaign demolishing the Wests Tigers 50-6 at Collegians on Sunday.

The scoring started early for the hosts with second rower Olivia Vale crossing for an opening minute four-pointer.

A Tori Shipton try sparked a period in which the Steelers grabbed four tries in the space of 16 minutes to race out to a commanding lead.

Indie Bostock, Mia Walsh, and Jordyn Preston joined Shipton on the list of first half try-scorers to make it 26-0 heading into the half.

Cheyenne Baker got the visitors on the board on the other side of the half however her four-pointer proved but a blip with the Steelers surging towards the half-century mark.

Walsh grabbed a second before Sienna Yeo joined the party in the 53rd minute.

Maria Paseka nabbed a late double before Shipton dove over for a second in the dying stages as the Steelers secure a dominant win on home soil.
