Dragons Lower Grades Wrap: Round 24

Check out our results from the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup & Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership competitions from over the weekend.

KNOCK-ON EFFECT NSW CUP

The Dragons were unable to take down the now ladder-leading Raiders falling 28-12 at Collegians on Sunday.

The visitors jumped out to a double-digit lead courtesy of tries to Mitchell Spencer and Hohepa Puru in the opening half-hour.

Ben Johnson found his way over in the right corner just shy of the break to get the Red V on the board off some sharp hands courtesy of Jonah Glover and Hayden Buchanan.

The Dragons had several opportunities to lock things up early in the second stanza before a late flourish sealed the win for the Raiders.

Josh Billing scored twice to go along with a Jordan Martin try in the space of just 10 minutes as the visiting side rocketed to the top of the competition ladder.

Declan Purcell scurried over late out of dummy-half for the first try of his Knock-On Effect NSW Cup career for the Red V.

JERSEY FLEGG CUP

The Dragons fell short of upsetting the Raiders in their Jersey Flegg clash at Collegians on Sunday going down 26-14.

The clash got off to a dream start for the Red V with Cyrus Stanley-Traill snagging an opening-minute try to make it 6-0.

Ashton Ward slotted a penalty goal soon after to extend the lead beyond a converted try for the hosts.

The Raiders managed responses through Jalen Afamasaga and Kane Rushton to earn their first lead a little over half-way through the opening stanza.

Ward found a try of his own on the stroke of the half before adding the extras himself to give the Dragons a two-point lead.

Jack Sandford crossed 42 minutes in to wrestle the lead back the way of the visiting side before Regan Carr and Mitchell Prest got over late to secure the competition points for the Raiders.

HARVEY NORMAN NSW WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP

The Dragons have strung together back-to-back wins defeating rivals the Sharks 22-4 in the Shire on Saturday.

The Red V were red-hot early with Katrina Phippen crossing in the first minute of the game before Heidi Regan found a first-half double to extend the lead.

Phippen found a second of her own a half-hour in to cap off a perfect start for the visitors.

Jaydika Tafua crossed for the Sharks to wrestle back some momentum just short of half-time, but it proved in vain with the Red V keeping a second-half clean sheet despite a 44th-minute Brittany Constable sin bin to ice to the victory.

The Steelers managed to hold off the Knights 22-16 in the Hunter on Saturday behind a Mackenzie Lear match-winner.

It took more than 20 minutes, but Carissa Reid drew first blood for the hosts before Sienna Yeo answered just shy of the break to give the Steelers a two-point edge.

Herewaka Pohatu added to their lead on the other side of the break only for Viena Tinao to respond moments later and tie proceedings at 10-apiece.

Kaarla Cowan put the Steelers back ahead with Jules Kirkpatrick in the sin bin for the Knights before the contest's seesawing nature persisted with Tyla Brown finding a try to lock things up entering the final 10 minutes.

It was Lear who found the match-winner for the Steelers in the dying stages to secure her side's fifth win of the year.
