The Dragons are pleased to announce that Kimberley Hunt has been nominated for the 2024 Veronica White Medal for Woman of the Year.
It serves as fitting recognition of Hunt's diligent work in the community particularly
through Indigenous events and grassroots programs.
The object of the award is to recognise the efforts of a player who has not only excelled on the field but has dedicated time off the field to make a positive difference among communities.
Hailing from Tully and a proud Wakaid woman from Badu Island, the Indigenous All-Stars and Prime Minister’s XIII representative joined the Dragons this year after making her NRLW debut for the Eels a year ago.
In her short time with the Dragons, Kim has shown exceptional dedication to supporting the local Indigenous community.
She has devoted her spare time to assisting the local Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service (IAMS) largely through their Healthy Deadly Kids (HDK) program.
By promoting healthy lifestyle choices among young Indigenous students, her efforts significantly enhance the positive influence of the Dragons Community, reflecting her deep commitment to both the club and the broader community.
Kim has also engaged with the community through various other channels such as:
- Yarning Groups: Participated in local AMS men’s and women’s yarning groups contributing to vital community discussions.
- Clinic Meetings and Program Growth: Attended clinic meetings to support and expand the Healthy Deadly Kids (HDK) programs aiding their development and success.
- Graduation Attendance: Attended the HDK graduation celebrating the achievements of the program’s participants and their milestones.
Her club commitments have extended to engaging with local junior rugby league
clubs and primary schools.
She has actively promoted important topics such as RESPECT and healthy lifestyles furthering the Dragons Community's mission of achieving positive impact and community well-being.
Her community work extends far beyond that of the club commitments with Hunt serving as the Regional Manager for Far North Queensland at Deadly Choices where she has made a profound impact on the Indigenous communities surrounding Cairns.
Since stepping into this role, she has built strong connections and relationships with many locals demonstrating her commitment to community well-being and cultural empowerment.
Her dedication and involvement highlight her passion for community service and her role as a positive force within the Dragons and beyond.
