The Dragons are pleased to announce that Jordyn Preston and Maria Paseka have been added to our NRLW squad as replacement players.
The club was granted an exemption to add the duo to the squad after Margot Vella and Sara Sautia unfortunately suffered season-ending injuries in Round 2.
A Shellharbour Stingrays junior, Preston has progressed through the club's pathways system and has enjoyed a stellar Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership campaign this year with the Steelers.
She was a member of the club's extended NRLW squad in 2022 with head coach Jamie Soward excited to welcome her back into the fold.
“Jordyn's a really versatile player who has played in the outside backs but has now transitioned into the forwards,” Soward said.
“She's gone away and worked on her craft really hard. Credit to Jamie 'Scissors' Szczerbanik and the Illawarra system. She's really fit this year and that was something she had to work on. As much as it's a reward for Jordy, it's also a reward for their coaching staff as well.”
A Kiama Knights and Collegians Wollongong junior, Paseka has progressed through the pathways system with the Steelers.
She was a key member of the Steelers' Tarsha Gale Cup premiership-winning outfit earlier this year before earning call-ups to the Under 19s Country and Under 19s Blues squads.
Soward is excited to add “outstanding talent” Paseka to the squad fresh off her standout Tarsha Gale Cup and Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership campaigns with the Steelers.
“Everyone saw what she could do at Tarsha Gale Cup level and it's about transitioning that into the women's game now,” Soward said.
“We've had our eye on her for a while and she's been linked with us for a while, so it was a matter of waiting for an opportunity and being ready and she's been able to do that.”
