Over 25 years ago, the St George Illawarra Dragons emerged from a proud rugby league heritage spanning more than 100 years.
Our logo has forever been a vital symbol of the club’s identity, representing this legacy.
While our traditional crest, as seen on the jersey, will remain untouched, the time has come to review our full logo suite and adapt it to the demands of the digital age.
What is Changing?
Our iconic primary logo, which has defined the St George Illawarra Dragons since
the club's inception, will continue to feature prominently on our jerseys ensuring
that the heritage and essence of the club remain firmly rooted in our visual identity.
However, over 95% of our social media interactions last season came through
mobile devices.
It’s in this digital space where the new logo will take centre stage.
Drawing inspiration from leading clubs like Liverpool in the EPL, we've maintained
our signature shield and crest but simplified it to create a secondary logo that is
clearer and more functional on small-scale applications like mobile screens.
The Change
This update aims to simplify our logo while respecting and preserving the rich heritage of the Dragons.
Previously, the club had six logo variations in circulation, many of which we couldn't fully control. By streamlining to just two logos, we are creating a stronger, more unified brand across all channels, including digital platforms and broadcast media.
Stay True, Stay Steadfast
This simplification not only enhances our brand consistency but also ensures that
the logo displays with greater clarity on mobile devices where our fans engage most frequently.
The heritage of our founding clubs – the St George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers – remains at the core of this change.
The dragon in our new secondary logo has been adapted directly from the one within our traditional shield, ensuring a respectful tribute to the past while meeting the demands of today’s digital world.
This revision highlights the balance between preserving tradition and embracing
necessary updates for modern branding needs.
This change adds to our rich history and instills the Dragons into future generations of supporters as we breathe fire together.
