Dragons honour John Gasnier after decades of lower grades work

The St George Illawarra Dragons honoured John Gasnier at WIN Stadium last December after his decision to step away from his role with the club's lower grades sides.

The father of Mark - who joined his father for celebrations in Wollongong - and brother of Immortal Reg, Gasnier's role with junior club Renown United helped deliver him to the Red V over three decades ago.

Throughout his time, he has worked with a wide range of players, coaches, and staff members across Harold Matthews Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, Under 20s NYC and NSW Cup competitions.

An immensely popular figure at the club, Gasnier was always the first to arrive to training sessions and game days to set-up equipment and welcome his fellow Dragons with his trademark smile.

Members of the Gasnier family were in attendance for the special occasion.

Among those he has worked alongside include current Dragons Jack de Belin, Damien Cook, and Luciano Leilua as well as coaches Nathan Brown, Adrian Lam, and Steve Price.

De Belin took to the microphone to thank Gasnier for his service and present him a framed picture commemorating his time as a Dragon.

With his grandchildren now getting older, he decided it was time to step away from his role.
