The Dragons notched their first win of the Jersey Flegg season holding off South Sydney 22-18 in warm conditions at Collegians.

Jarrah Treweek enjoyed a standout afternoon for the Red V coming up with two needed four-pointers along with several big defensive stops.

The match was brought to an early halt as South Sydney lost second rower Benjamin Geary early after a nasty mid-field collision with Zane Watson replacing him.

The Dragons managed a sublime effort from inside their own half to open their account.

Toby Rumble shoved his way into space down the right flank before putting a perfect kick back inside for a supporting Eden Hodges who dove over next to the sticks.

Rabbitohs winger Miles Minto was also taken from the field for a HIA – which he ultimately passed – soon after prompting a backline re-shuffle for the visitors.

Front rower Ryan Hutchinson showcased his slips catching talent on his own goal-line to defuse an attacking kick.

The hosts found a second a quarter of the way into the contest in near-identical fashion with Rumble streaking into space down the right sideline and sending a perfect kick back on the inside.

His centre Lyric Craft-Te Moananui wrestled the ball away one-one-one from a chasing Rabbitoh to slam it down and grow the lead out to 12-0.

The Dragons were able to extend their lead moments later thanks to a determined Jarrah Treweek effort with the back rower wrestling his way out of multiple tackle attempts to nudge his way over.

Jared Johnson motored into the backfield moments later as the Dragons threatened to add to their lead, but the athletic edge forward was reeled in shy of the stripe.

The Rabbitohs managed the first points of the second half through Samuel Taylor who burrowed his way over out of dummy-half off the back of a spate of pressure to bring it back to 16-6.

Some desperate Dragons defence held the Rabbitohs out before Treweek came down and again made his presence felt with ball in hand.

The Milton-Ulladulla junior put his side on the front foot with a break against the run of play before powering his way to the try-line moments later for his second four-pointer of the morning.

South Sydney found their second try of the affair through Mateus Heslin with 10 minutes on the clock.

With just five minutes to play, the Rabbitohs inched even closer with Taylor pouncing on a well-weighted grubber to bring it back to 22-18.

A late shot on a Rabbitohs kicker gifted the vistors a golden opportunity to steal it late only for Tobias Miller to snag an intercept at the perfect time.
