The Dragons are delighted to announce Mark Coyne has joined the club’s Board of Directors.

Coyne replaces the outgoing Martin Newman, whose tenure on the Board concluded last month.

Coyne enjoyed a storied career in the Red V, playing 207 games for the St George Dragons before becoming the inaugural St George Illawarra co-captain alongside Paul McGregor in 1999.

He featured in three grand finals and played 19 State of Origin matches for Queensland and nine matches for Australia during his time in the Red V.

His post-playing career included roles on the NRL judiciary and as an ARLC commissioner and he also spent a decade as Independent Chairman of the NRL/RLPA Education and Welfare Committee.

Away from football, Coyne has held a number of senior leadership positions including CEO and Executive Director of compensation claims management provider EML, Chief Executive/Managing Director of Coal Services Pty Ltd, Executive General Manager of GIO Workers Compensation, Director of the NSW Police and Citizens Youth Club and Director of the NRMA Road Service. He is a current board member of the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation.

Dragons Chairman Andrew Lancaster welcomed Coyne to the Board.

“Mark had a wonderful Rugby League career playing for the Dragons, Queensland and Australia and his commercial and governance roles since his playing days have been equally successful,” Lancaster said.

“He brings a relevant understanding of our club and the broader rugby league eco-system and his extensive connectivity with the commercial, political and rugby league world make him a great addition to the Dragons Board and someone we should look to as we take this club forward.”

Coyne added: “This is a club which has been very close to my heart for my entire career and I’m looking forward to playing a tangible role in shaping the direction of the Dragons moving forward.

“It’s an exciting time in our club’s history with plenty of opportunity ahead of us and I can’t wait to get started.”
