The visitors enjoyed the bulk of the early field position, but it was the clean-up work of fullback Wes Pring that came up trumps on numerous occasions.
The Roosters managed to cross 17 minutes in through front rower Julius Mitchell who crashed over next to the sticks to make it 6-0.
The Dragons’ continued ill-discipline proved costly with the Roosters again getting over after being piggybacked upfield – this time through centre Jonti Morshead-Feildel.
The hosts tooks advantage of a late set restart to conjure a response with Toby Rumble taking in a pristine Clay Baldock cut-out to go over untouched in the left corner to cut the deficit back to eight.
The Dragons marched back down into good ball the following set courtesy of a David Afu break down the right flank.
Interchange hooker Axel Antony sent a barging Cyrus Stanley-Traill over to the right of the uprights to score in his first Jersey Flegg outing of 2025.
The Roosters looked destined to hit back prior to the break only for a textbook Kye Wright try-saver to forced an error.
A fortunate bouncing Josh Durkin chip kick landed the Roosters their third try of the contest however shortly after with William Malloy racing away off it to score.
Malloy was placed on report in the opening set of the second half for a dangerous tackle on Wright.
Benjamin Taylor was binned for a late shot on a kicking Baldock the next set.
Stanley-Traill and Antony again combined for points off the tap with the former finding the latter with a late offload to score.
An ill-timed error the following set gifted the Roosters an attacking opportunity with Durkin’s boot laying one on for Enzo Griffier as the lead grew out to 24-16 with half an hour to play.
